Hotbox trailers are a key tool in successfully laying asphalt. However, when a hotbox trailer ends up on the fritz, you’ll find it’s almost impossible to get a day’s work done in a timely manner. To ensure your trailer stays in tip-top shape while you work to get your asphalt down, be sure to read our helpful maintenance tips below.

When to Service Your Hotbox Trailer

The number of burners included in your hotbox trailer will dictate how often you’ll need to perform a tune-up on your model. For single-burner hotbox trailers, you’ll only need to service your model every year or so—although this should be a very in-depth tune-up service. However, double-burner trailers will need to receive a tune-up every six months or so, as these models tend to burn longer and wear out faster.

Tools You’ll Need

To perform a tune-up on your hotbox trailer, you’ll need to have a number of different tools on hand, a majority of which we’ve listed below:

  • Philips and Flathead Screwdrivers
  • Pliers
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Mallet
  • Flashlight
  • Metal Paint Scraping Tools
  • Dead Blow Mallet
  • Ratchet
  • Fuel Filter
  • Open End Wrench
  • Retention Rings
  • Sealing or Flange Gasket

However, specific tools and parts required for a hotbox trailer tune-up can vary from model to model, so be sure to read your owner’s manual to ensure you have the right equipment for the job.

Hotbox trailers have quite a few complicated parts and components, and not everyone has the skills or experience necessary to perform more complicated maintenance tasks on their models.
